Job Summary

The Student Deliberative Dialogues Assistant is expected to serve as a positive representative of CCE using professional verbal and written communication skills while communicating with multiple audiences and supporting CCE's principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion.

The student staff will be expected to meet with their supervisor weekly as well as demonstrate excellent time management, project management, and multi-tasking skills necessary when working independently. Work study eligible students are encouraged to apply.

The Center for Civic Engagement is located at 300 W. North St. Normal, IL. However, occasional meetings, participation/work at events on campus will be necessary as well.

The strategic plan for the Center for Civic Engagement (CCE) states that the vision of the department is "a more just and equitable world cultivated throughthe participation of all peoplein the co-creation of knowledge and collective action." Its mission is to connect students, faculty, staff,and alumniwithlocal, national, and global communities through meaningfulcivic engagementto promote active community members' lifelong learning and development."

In general, CCE is responsible for enacting Illinois State's commitment to civic engagement and fostering a culture that values and rewards civic engagement. This is accomplished through a variety of programs and services with students, faculty, and staff, and in partnership with Bloomington-Normal community organizations. CCE's work involves volunteering, service-learning, political engagement, and civic education.

CCE is unique in that it reports to both the Division of Student Affairs and the Division of Academic Affairs. The unit is comprised of 6 professional staff, 2 graduate assistants, an administrative assistant and several student workers, interns, and fellows. While each staff member has specific responsibilities, the department operates as a team, and therefore, all staff are expected to support a variety of programs and services.

Pay Rate

$20.00/hour

Required Qualifications

- Students in leadership positions within Alternative Breaks (executive board, trip leaders, etc.) are not eligible to apply.
- All student employees in the Center for Civic Engagement must have good academic and disciplinary standing to obtain employment.

Preferred Qualifications

- Communicate regularly with the team of student facilitators via email, text, and in-person to schedule facilitators for each requested dialogue. Utilize Microsoft Forms and Excel to schedule facilitators.
- Prepare necessary materials electronically and in print for each dialogue so that facilitators are prepared.
- After each dialogue, organize remaining materials and log participation for future reporting.
- Other duties that may arise will provide an opportunity to better understand the operations of deliberative dialogues, such as attendance at meetings, events, and webinars.
