Job Summary

WaFd Bank is proud to offer paid internship opportunities to high school juniors & seniors looking to pursue a career in the banking industry. This will be a rotational program providing exposure to all departments within our footprint such as Retail, Treasury, Commercial Real Estate, C&I, Energy Banking, etc. The Banking intern will gain real-life experience of what it's like to work in the banking industry by working alongside world-class professionals. Throughout the program, the intern will be responsible for providing operational support to the various departments including financial analysis and credit underwriting, clerical duties related to loan closing and funding, weekly construction draw administration and regulatory adherence. In addition, the intern will be required to complete a series of project-based learning assignments to better understand how WaFd Bank impacts the local economy, along with its role giving back to the communities in which we serve. The intern will have exposure to relationship management, participate in several marketing and volunteer opportunities and will become familiar with WaFd Bank's culture, brand and value propositions.

Primary Responsibilities
    Opportunity to explore a variety of roles and positions within a regional community bank.
  • Learn new technology in a fast-paced, professional environment.
  • Follow WaFd Bank's Information Security policies, ensuring that all customer information and confidential bank information is processed and handled in a secure manner and environment.
  • Assist with local online file storage and document management.
  • Appropriately complete quarterly credit comments and annual reviews.
  • Update financial tracking.
  • Research client banking relationships and credit history.
  • Identify and mitigate policy exceptions.
  • Participate in training opportunities as presented.
  • Participate in business development and referral activities.
  • Participate in 1 bank sponsored community event or volunteer opportunity.
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking and the ability to take initiative.
  • A basic understanding of financial statements.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (primarily Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
  • Must have good typing, clerical skills and attention to detail.
  • Position requires clear and concise verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work assignments in a consistent manner to ensure timely and efficient production.
  • Ability to deal effectively and professionally with internal and external clients.
