Job Description

Position Summary

Carpenters Apprentice are responsible for working with their hands and power tools to design, build, install, and repair structures, fixtures, furniture, and other items using different types of materials including wood and steel.


Essential Functions Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  1. Measure height, width, length and other proportions.
  2. Select appropriate work materials.
  3. Work within precise limits and standards of accuracy (Quality Control).
  4. Check work along the way to ensure it meets all code and specification requirements.
  5. Work with varied materials including but not limited to wood, plastic, fiberglass or drywall.
  6. Utilize tools including, but not limited, to chisels, planes, saws, drills, sanders, levels, rulers, plumb bobs, framing squares, and other carpentry tools.
  7. Assemble materials with nails, screws, staples, and adhesives.
  8. Work on elevated surfaces including stilts, ladders, and scaffolds.
  9. Construct handrails, steps, drilling, patching, and light concrete work.
  10. Builds stairs, temporary doors, ramps, temporary walls, etc.
  11. Erects various types of scaffolding and safety barriers.
  12. Form structures for pouring concrete.
  13. Install partitions, doors, windows, and associated hardware.
  14. Install or replace panes of glass, ceiling tiles, and doors.
  15. Install base trim, cabinets, and crown moldings.
  16. Properly plan and execute specific work as directed.
  17. Keep all material, tools and equipment in an orderly fashion and maintain a clean work area.
  18. Identify safety hazards that you or other employees may be subject to and take all necessary corrective action to eliminate or minimize hazards.
  19. Perform other position appropriate duties as required in a competent, professional, and courteous manner.
  20. Complete all required and assigned training for this role.

Work Environment

The work is completed outside at the construction site, renovating occupied facilities such as hospitals, labs, nursing homes, etc. The position is often exposed to sounds and loud noises, such as construction equipment. The job requires they wear protective equipment when on the construction site (hardhats and safety glasses). Temperatures and conditions may vary depending on the weather and seasons.

Physical Demands

Must be able to: bend, stoop, squat, crawl, climb, kneel, balance, push, pull, reach overhead, and lift and/or move objects up to 75 pounds of force occasionally, 50 pounds frequently, and 20 pounds constantly. Job requires working in all elements, depending on job location, time of year, heat, cold, rain, and snow. Employee's personal weight and personal tools cannot exceed weight limit of ladder (Class 1- 250 lbs., Class 1A- 300 lbs.). Perform work at various heights from ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts, cat walks or other safe work areas. Work in restricted areas (utility tunnels, crawl spaces, attics). Must receive proper training before working in restricted areas. Repetitive use of arms, hands, and fingers.

Expected Hours of Work

Full time position. Extended hours and weekends may apply.

Travel

Travel to and from the construction site is required. Long distance travel may be required which may include overnight stays depending on the project.

Required Education and Experience

  1. High School Diploma or GED

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

  1. Have personal hand tools and tool belt/pouch within the first 3 months of employment (refer to the mandatory tool list provided during onboarding)
  2. Maintain current driver's license and reliable transportation.
  3. The ability to read, write and communicate effectively.
  4. Have the ability to take measurements and make calculations.
  5. Ability to work well with supervision and peers.
  6. Ability to problem solve when errors occur.
  7. Must be conscious of time schedules and deadlines.
  8. Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
