The Financial Reporting & Accounting ("FRA") Global Functions team is responsible for producing high quality, accurate, timely, business relevant, accounting advisory services to global functions, such as HR and Employee Benefits Accounting, Research & Development ("R&D"), and Global Royalties in accordance with applicable authoritative accounting framework, regulatory, and disclosure requirements. This position will report directly to the Head of Technical Accounting & FRA Global Functions at the Alcon campus in Fort Worth, Texas, and will regularly collaborate with cross-functional and cross-border colleagues in Accounting, Finance, Tax, Legal, HR, Compensation & Benefits, and External Reporting.

In this role, a typical day will include:
  • Responsible for providing leadership and oversight of the team responsible for HR and Employee Benefits Accounting Research & Development ("R&D"), and Global Royalties, ensuring accounting compliance with IFRS during month-end close process.
  • Support cross-functional global teams in assessing new programs and related accounting implications, considering desired outcomes of partners and compliance with applicable accounting guidance.
  • Engage with external service providers as applicable, aligning timing of deliverables to facilitate timely and efficient high quality financial reporting of Employee Benefits Accounting.
  • Lead global functions technical topical areas, including ensuring clear, concise, easy to understand accounting policies, and addressing business inquiries.
  • Providing technical accounting support to global functions on complex / significant matters, preparing / reviewing appropriate accounting documentation in line with matrix for approval of accounting issues.
  • Prepare materials for presentations to senior management.
  • Responsible for accounting compliance with IFRS as interpreted by Group and including assisting the Head of Technical Accounting & FRA Global Functions in the following:
    • Maintaining the various requirements of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act for Global Functions in conjunction with established processes, including balance sheet reconciliation.
    • Responsible for analyzing balance sheet, cash flow, income statement and provisions, and other elements associated with the specific activities of global functions and driving improvements in the process and presentation of the output.
    • Rolling out improvements for HR Accounting and Comp. & Benefits, Global Royalties and R&D and documentation to the Regions and local entities as appropriate.
    • Support IFRS to US GAAP conversion readiness.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING TO ALCON:
  • Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school +18 yrs; Assoc.+14 yrs; M.S.+7 yrs; PhD+3 yrs)
  • The ability to fluently read, write, understand and communicate in English
  • 10 Years of Relevant Experience
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree in accounting / finance
  • 6 Years of Demonstrated Leadership
  • Certified Public Accountant / Chartered Accountant
  • 7+ years of experience with major public accounting firm (Big 4 preferred) or public multi-national company experience
  • Preparation or auditing of consolidated financial statements and SEC reports, accounting research responsibilities
  • Strong technical accounting and reporting competencies in IFRS or US GAAP
  • Healthcare / Life Sciences / Medical Device industry knowledge
  • Experience performing independent research / analysis associated with accounting and regulatory pronouncements (e.g., impact of new accounting standard on Company financial statements)
  • Experience writing accounting memos
  • Experience implementing / documenting SOX controls
  • Ability to work with senior management and influence decision making
  • SAP ERP understanding
